App Store Screenshot Sizes 2026: Complete Guide
Every screenshot dimension Apple and Google require, with exact pixel sizes, file format rules, and practical tips for getting them right.
Why Screenshot Sizes Matter
Apple's App Store and Google Play each require screenshots at specific pixel dimensions. Submit the wrong size and your app update gets rejected — or worse, your screenshots appear cropped or blurry on device. Getting the dimensions right the first time saves hours of back-and-forth with App Store Review.
Apple requires screenshots for each device class your app supports. If your app runs on both iPhone and iPad, you need screenshots for both. The sizes below reflect the current requirements as of 2026.
iPhone Screenshot Sizes
Apple requires screenshots for two iPhone display sizes. These cover all current iPhone models through the iPhone 16 lineup.
iPhone 6.7-inch Display (Required)
Dimensions: 1290 × 2796 pixels (portrait) or 2796 × 1290 pixels (landscape)
This covers the iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPhone 14 Pro Max. This is the primary screenshot size that most visitors will see on the App Store. It's the display size that appears in search results and on product pages for users browsing on larger iPhones.
If you only create one set of iPhone screenshots, make it this size. App Store Connect can scale these down for smaller displays, though Apple recommends providing dedicated screenshots for each size.
iPhone 6.5-inch Display (Required)
Dimensions: 1284 × 2778 pixels (portrait) or 2778 × 1284 pixels (landscape)
This covers the iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone 12 Pro Max, and iPhone 11 Pro Max. While the pixel count is slightly different from the 6.7-inch size, the aspect ratio is nearly identical. Many developers use the same design scaled to both sizes.
iPad Screenshot Sizes
If your app is available on iPad (including via compatibility mode), you need iPad screenshots. Apple requires two sizes.
iPad 12.9-inch Display (Required for iPad apps)
Dimensions: 2048 × 2732 pixels (portrait) or 2732 × 2048 pixels (landscape)
This covers the iPad Pro 12.9-inch (all generations). The 12.9-inch iPad Pro has a 4:3-ish aspect ratio, which is significantly different from iPhone. You'll need a separate layout for iPad screenshots — simply scaling up your iPhone screenshots won't look right.
iPad 11-inch Display (Required for iPad apps)
Dimensions: 1668 × 2388 pixels (portrait) or 2388 × 1668 pixels (landscape)
This covers the iPad Pro 11-inch, iPad Air (4th generation and later), and iPad mini (6th generation). Like the 12.9-inch, this is a roughly 4:3 aspect ratio.

File Format Requirements
Apple App Store
- Format: PNG or JPEG (PNG recommended for quality)
- Color space: sRGB or Display P3
- No alpha channel: Screenshots must be flattened (no transparency)
- Maximum file size: No official limit, but keep under 10 MB per image
- Quantity: Up to 10 screenshots per device size per localization
- Minimum: At least 1 screenshot required (3+ recommended)
Google Play
- Format: PNG or JPEG
- Minimum dimension: 320px on the shortest side
- Maximum dimension: 3840px on the longest side
- Aspect ratio: No wider than 2:1 or taller than 2:1
- Quantity: 2–8 screenshots per device type
Best Practices for Screenshot Dimensions
Here are practical tips for getting your screenshot sizes right:
- Design at the largest size first. Start with the iPhone 6.7" size (1290 × 2796) and scale down. It's easier to reduce than to upscale.
- Use a tool that exports all sizes at once. Our free screenshot generator lets you enable the sizes you need and exports them all in a single ZIP download.
- Don't add letterboxing. Fill the entire canvas. Black bars or whitespace around your screenshot looks unprofessional and wastes valuable visual real estate.
- Test on device. Preview your screenshots on an actual iPhone and iPad to make sure text is readable and the layout looks balanced at the real display size.
- Keep text large. Screenshots appear as thumbnails in search results. Headlines should be legible even at small sizes — use at least 60pt equivalent for primary text.
Common Mistakes
- Swapping width and height. Portrait is always width × height (e.g., 1290 × 2796, not 2796 × 1290). Double-check your export settings.
- Using retina dimensions incorrectly. The sizes above are in actual pixels, not points. Don't divide by 2 or 3.
- Forgetting iPad sizes. If your app runs on iPad (even in compatibility mode), Apple expects iPad screenshots. Missing them can delay your review.
- Submitting JPEG with artifacts. If using JPEG, use high quality (95%+). Visible compression artifacts in screenshots look unprofessional.
